Get Un-Stuck And Out Of Neutral?

 

Nothing can feel more frustrating than having a big picture vision of WHAT you want to create  within your business, and feeling like you’re stuck in neutral.

Have you ever felt like you were on a hamster wheel going round and round in circles but still getting nowhere?

This is not an uncommon feeling and can happen for a number of reasons:

  • You’re not sure of exactly who your ideal prospects might be so you keep changing your mind on who you should approach.
  • There seems to be so many new ;pieces of information and skills you need to learn you don’t know where to begin.
  • You know you need to get team help but you’re unsure of what you need help with and where to find that help.
  • Technology is not your area of expertise. You can’t get your reach out as far as you would like without it but you don’t know where to begin.
  • You launched your new business or spoke to people you felt sure would love your product but it didn’t go off with the ‘bang’ you expected, and now you’re feeling deflated and unmotivated
  • You’re ready to take your business to the next level…only you’re not sure what the best steps to take are that won’t upset the apple cart with your team or sponsor.
  • You keep hearing, “You’re so good at what you do”…only people are not buying from you.
  • You have a ton of ideas…but they feel jumbled rather than feeling like a clear plan of action

If any of these sound familiar you are perfectly normal! This is just a phase (and yes, like all things, it too, will pass) but you’re also probably closer to a solution than you might think.

My advice? Follow my 3 simple tips to help you find your mojo again. Once you do, you’ll have more clarity, vision and steps to move forward quickly. And you’ll begin to see the income streaming in as a result.

Step#1 Analyse Exactly Where You’re Getting Stuck

When you’re in the midst of feeling stuck, you can become extremely overwhelmed. Everything might seem like its disjointed and you’ve got pieces that need your attention all over the place.

The best thing is to first identify exactly which decisions you need to make, and in what order. Then, you can move forward making these decisions quickly.

Step #2 Follow Thru Until You Reach The End Of Your Focus

Action that you take will always outperform no action taken at all!  I’ve learnt this lesson myself.  A few years ago I launched a new online program which had sat partially created, on my hard drive for just over one full year. Why?  I lost my focus.

Being distracted by new opportunities or self doubt can delay you from creating and building what you really want to share with others.  You must be single minded in your actions and put blinkers on to keep out all other distractions until you reach the end of your focus.

It’s not uncommon for you to start a little self doubt around your value or the value of your product or company, so remember, you can consciously direct your self-talk, using phrases such as, “I can do this” and even “I refuse to give in or give up!

Having a good accountability partner or being part of an active Team or coaching group that expects you to succeed  is also a great strategy to help keep your focus.

Step #3 Don’t Up-Level Until Your Foundation Is Solid

I speak with a lot of people who beat themselves up on the fact they are not as advanced in their business as someone else.  It’s important to recognize that you are where you are – and wherever that is, it’s OK!  Having grand plans, vision and excitement to build your business are all good things to have.  Just don’t let them get in the way of being sure to create solid foundations before you start to up-level.

This doesn’t mean you need to immediately have a team that is 50 people big, or to be doing weekly live presentations yourself,  to successfully build up from wherever you are today. You can still create an extremely successful business by learning some fundamental sales and marketing skills and have systems in place for you to run your business smoothly.

Step #4 Practice Making Decisions Quickly

This is a vital success strategy. Indecision will be one of the biggest reasons for you to feel ‘stuck’ in neutral.

And yet, when building your home business no decision is so major that it cannot be undone or corrected.  If you create a promotional video that is not great – make a new one.   You select an email service that you become unhappy with – move to another one.  You make an offer that no-one takes you up on – make a new one.

See – nothing, absolutely nothing has to be forever in the online world, yet it’s so common for people to let the decision making process halt their momentum.

Change this today!  Make the decision to make quick decisions and notice how much momentum you create.

Step #5 Surround Yourself With Successful People

Get help where you need it!  That’s probably about all I want to say here.

But because you expect me to say more, I will.

Working your own home business can be hard.  Regardless of whether it’s working out what to say to your prospects, your first online team call, there are lots of moving elements to keep track of, and things that need doing that are most likely outside of your expertise.  It’s OK to ask for help.

Caution here:  Don’t take advice from people who have not completed your ultimate goal.  I see this all the time.  The help you need might be someone to help you clarify who are the best prospects and customers for your product or service.  It could be tech support or someone to keep you accountable to implement your launch and growth plan.

Every day you don’t move your business forward is money you’re leaving on the table.  So I’ll say it again – get help where you need it, and from the right people.

Grab a pen and fill in the answers to these simple questions:

I’m in neutral (stuck) because _______________.

The decisions I need to make are ____________.

The mentor who’s going to move me forward powerfully is ____________.

Getting out of neutral feels awesome and yes, you can do this!

Is There A Time You Should Quit Being An Entrepreneur?

Is it ok to quit being an entrepreneur?  I’ve had plenty of time to think about this long and hard over the past few years.

On a trip to USA a few years ago I had many fascinating conversations with fellow members from my Mastermind group, and reading Jim Casparie’s Knowing When To Quit

I’m not announcing that I’m quitting, far from it.  But I do want to tell you I’ve thought about it more than once or twice in the past few years of having my own home based online business.

The dream of being your own boss is super attractive if you have a 9-5 job that sucks the life out of you.  Or if you get frustrated at not being able to do what you want when you want.

Discussing your idea of starting your own business is met with enthusiasm and encouragement from people you talk to, and one day, you make the decision to leave your bread and butter job to fulfil that vision or at the very least – to take on a new venture alongside what you are currently doing.

I remember how shocked we all were when one of my own previous coaches announced she was leaving her business.  She had a thriving team and was also running highly successful training programs and made the decision to say “I’m quitting my business”.

It’s not often you hear someone say “I’m thinking of closing everything I’ve worked so hard on, and going back to a day job”.

Aren’t you meant to do this entrepreneurial thing forever?

Having your own company is something others only dream of, so how could you possibly think about quitting?

Well I’m here to say it’s OK to quit.

Many people think if they can be their own boss it’s going to make life easier.  Sometimes that’s true, but not always.  Running a business is damn hard.  Not everyone is mean’t to be a business owner.

Being an entrepreneur is one of the most challenging endeavours

There will be people who make it sound easy.  I will say it is simple, but it’s not easy.  Those who say otherwise are either lying or have been extremely fortunate.

Let’s have a closer look at an incredible success story – life story of Steve Jobs.

Apple began in 1976 and what most people didn’t see was the decades of hard work and heartache before it became outrageously profitable and the ‘Apple’ of almost everyone’s eye.

Steve Job worked himself to death and was know for being someone extremely focused on a singular vision.

He was an amazing man who left an empire for sure.  But with due respect, that’s not my vision of having a business and life you love.

Failing Is Different To Quitting

Quitting is when you simply give up and make excuses as to why something ‘is not to be’.

Failing is when you don’t achieve the outcome you intended and take responsibility for the decision to make a change.

Colonel Sanders got turned down for his chicken Idea 1009 times and two years of driving across country alone, showing off his recipe before he heard his first yes.  He failed 1009 times, but he never quit.

Here’s a fantastic video, An Invocation for Beginning, is a must watch and highlights the important reasons why we begin anything meaningful, how frightening that can be and that you’re most likely going to stuff up!

I like it especially when he says:

The people who matter most in your life will still love you regardless, even if you fail.

Let me ask you, have others close to you changed their mind around something in the past? Of course they have.  And you still support them, right?

It’s so common to put all this pressure on ourselves to succeed.  We can easily forget that regardless of whether we do or don’t, we’re still loved, no matter what.

Get Paid What You’re Worth

Most entrepreneurs don’t like to admit they spend years working long hours on a crappy wage much lower than what most people would ever accept.

This isn’t good business practise.  It won’t make your life any easier and it’s not recognizing the value of your expertise and experience.

I’m going to ask you to spend one week jotting down every minute you put into ensuring your business succeeds.

Most entrepreneurs would be shocked to actually realize how little they are being paid on an hourly rate, taking into account client preparation time, admin, long hours of working on tasks that you could outsource.

Dan Kennedy in his book No B.S. Time Management explains this process really well.

After writing down all of your working hours, add the amount you invest into the infrastructure of your business.  Things like office space, tools, software, mentoring, security, online facilities, and team members.

Get your profit total and subtract the total of these operating expenses.  Then divide this amount by the hours you’re REALLY working.

If the figure you see is a minimum wage or less, then it could be time for you to re-consider going back to a regular job.

Added benefits with a real job

When I’m working on a project over a weekend, I’ll often think about the luxury of being able to ‘shut off’ after hours when I had a past job.

And then there are other benefits that come with being an employee.  Things like annual leave, superannuation payments, holiday leave loading, staff functions fully catered.  Oh, and don’t forget having the company reimburse some of your travel costs or other expenses.

Sometimes, a well paid job is an attractive alternative.

It’s ok to share the load!

The quickest way to crash is when people try to do everything in a business on their own.  It’s just not realistic, especially after your first year or two.  By this time you should realize the importance of investing in others.  This will allow you to grow your business faster and to see profits more quickly.

In no other successful business environment will you see the head of the company trying to run the entire ship alone.  Even employees get to bounce ideas off their colleagues and ask for help e every now and then.

This is especially important if you are still working a day job and trying to build your entrepreneurial vision.

You Should Love What You Do

I’ve always believed there are so many things you could do, that there is no reason for you to be doing something you don’t enjoy.

Richard Branson is famous for saying he would never run a business if it wasn’t a ton of fun.

I haven’t yet made Richard’s billions but I do aim to enjoy working in my business in whatever fun ways I can.

When there are times the challenges seem high or I’m on low energy, I’ll change things up a bit. I’ve got some awesome music tracks that change my mood and I’ll do a bit of a dance in the middle of the room to get the energy flowing again.

Recognizing you’re losing focus on what matters or working too hard is the first step.

If you’re not loving what you’re doing AND you’re not making money, then it could be time to look for a job!

Secret Thoughts Women Have About Getting Old!

 

This is a touchy topic…

I’m writing this to you because I want to address a secret thought you might be having about being too old.  You know some days you feel like you could take on the world, and yet other days you feel that you are waaaay too old to tackle anything challenging or new.

Let me clear the air with some inspirational content on this topic for you!

I will always remember a friend telling me she felt too old to run a marathon at forty five.  Then we watched a local marathon event and you could have rocked the stadium with the cheer that went up as the oldest runner crossed the line who was aged 73.  My point is, what you are telling yourself is in your head.

Are you determined to create the life and business you want, or are you choosing to let the opportunity to pass you by because of secret thoughts of being too old?  It’s an important difference.

Being single, babies, kids, age or even having a spouse can all become excuses to hide behind rather than taking the risk to build a business that excites you and makes you feel alive.

I’m not going to kids you and tell you it’s easy to build a business.  There is also no rule book that says you have to have it built and complete within four months!  If you have children, a full-time job, or both—you still have the power to build a great business.

I’ve always thought of building your own business as one of the most incredible self-empowerment tools on the planet.

The things you have to do physically and mentally to bring it all together are life changing and you should never under-estimate your efforts.

Why take the effort to build your own business?  Because it can give you freedom and flexibility.

Freedom comes from generating as much money as you want so you can do whatever you want when you want to do it!

Here are some tips to handling those little voices that can chatter away in your head and become quite STRESSFULL …. 

1)  Forward planning with mini focus

Set out a year long plan, and then decide on one main focus for each month.  This makes everything very achievable.  Let’s say you want to learn the new skills of creating videos. Do your research and gather your learning materials and study everything closely for one month. Every week create three videos as your main focus.  By the end of the month you’ll have new traffic to your website and offers just through this one new skill.  The more videos you create, the longer people will stay on your website and the more Google juice you get!

2)  Let go of things you can’t do anything about.

If you have kids, family, spouse or other commitments that you need to work around, stop stressing about them.  It could be that you need to set some new boundaries that benefit both the quality of family time you have and your business.  Re-focus on delegating tasks so you can focus on

what’s most important.  Perhaps for six months it’s time to get someone else to do the school run, or the cleaning or shopping so you have some precious time for business building activities and family time.  Your personal life is important and so is your business. If you want your business to be more than a hobby, your business needs to be given the respect it deserves now!

3)  Get out and move!

Many of you know that I love to include physical activity in every day (well six days out of seven at least!).  For me it’s lifting weight at the gym, outdoor running or cycling.   Here’s the truth.  It’s important to get up, get out and just move!  It might seem difficult for you at first but the more you practice, the better you get.  Before you know it you will LOVE being active. It really does fire you up to be mentally alert every day and it relieves stress.  Being active will keep you mentally and physically in shape.

4)   Feel the fear and do it anyway.

Indecision and fear are two forms of self abuse.  They will beat you up and leave you with tonnes of reasons why you should simply do nothing.

To live into your true potential you are going to have to get strong!  Once you take the step past your comfort zone, indecision and fear subside.  You’ve got talent.  You’ve got skills. You can do this – so trust that everything will work out for the best once you make a decision to take yourself out of where you currently are. This could mean taking on a speaking opportunity, moving house or hiring a business coach.

Whatever you are uncertain or fearful about today, make a decision and move toward it now!

5)  Most of all be HONEST with yourself!

You want to be a good example to your kids and your family. If you give up your dreams, you are out of integrity with what you would most likely tell your own children. Don’t live your life for your spouse, your kids, or even your parents.  It’s critical for you to be a shining example for the people you love.  You may need to implement some new boundaries from today. People around you will respect you more once you take a stand to love and respect your desire to build your business.  Everyone around you will be better off when you do so!

Everyone has a desire to do something great with their life.  Some of us know what that is, and others need to scrape some rust off the outside to uncover what is deep inside. Either way, creating your own personally designed lifestyle is a choice, and I suggest that it’s a choice you make soon.  You are never too old and you still have plenty of time to make it happen. Build Extreme Confidence And Become An Unstoppable Entrepreneur

How do you build extreme confidence and become the unstoppable entrepreneur you were born to be?

I remember when Murray and I got to bring home our beautiful daughter for the first time as a new baby.  There were lots of plans and dreams for what our life might become as a family. At the same time, we were crushed with fear and absolutely no experience of what we needed to do to keep this little person happy and thriving.

As each day passed, it was pushing through the fear of the unknown and experiencing little ‘wins’ along the way that gave us confidence to become great parents.

Whether you have a new idea for your existing business, or you want to create a brand new business for your existing life, there’s one truth that savvy entrepreneurs know without a doubt, and that is that confidence is key.

In fact, studies show that lack of confidence  is the number one leading excuse for procrastination, for inaction and for failure, and we’ve all been there, and if this sounds familiar and that you consistently wish you were more confident in yourself and be able to create different results, then today will show you how to change that starting right now.

Because LACKING CONFIDENCE can be paralysing for your business . . .  It’s time to get yourself back into action!

Being fearful or lacking confidence can stop you each time you get a new idea.

Confidence can stop even the most passionate entrepreneur from being truly successful on all levels.

It is a myth that as we up-level, as we get more confident and the feeling of fear that can grip you in at the beginning of your business journey will never come back.  I’m here to tell you that is complete baloney!

The fear is still there no matter what level you are at in business.  In fact, if you are doing something fearless, you can be assured you are performing in mediocrity.

Fear is always there, but when you’re at a higher level you’ve often learned how to manage it much better.   The fear doesn’t go away, but when you take action the fear starts to dissipate.  You learn to take action “in spite of”.

Always, what you want is on the ‘other side’.   Once you take action and cross to the ‘other side’, you can see you’ve got the battle wounds, but they’re never as deep as you think they’re going to be.

The key message is you can’t go over it, you can’t go under it, and you’ve got to walk right into the fear to make it happen. That’s how you build confidence.

Let’s say you are in start-up mode with your business and you’re scared and your husband doesn’t believe in you.  Your friends think you’re nuts to want to do this. You’ve got a great job but you know there’s this special desire to do something more.

Let’s say you take the lead. You invest in yourself and start making progress.

When you start doing the thing that you’re here to do and you don’t suppress and you take chances and they work, you get confidence. It’s important to really look at all the things you have accomplished each day and find a way to record your accomplishments daily.

When you don’t meet a goal you have set for whatever reason,  goal it’s very easy to beat yourself up, and think, “Man, I didn’t accomplish what I wanted to.” But, if you were to go back and say, “Yeah, but here are a hundred things that I did achieve,” it erases that negativity.

Making mistakes is an important step!  I make mistakes. We all do, and when we’re trying to avoid mistakes, we don’t realize how we’re missing the big lesson which is why you have trust there are no mistakes.

It’s like Miles Davis said, “There are no mistakes. There are only lessons.”

You have to experience it a little bit of confidence before you start getting it, which means you have to take action to start getting.

So, the best metaphor I know of is like the riding a bike metaphor where you – when you were a kid, do you remember when you were learning to ride a bike, and maybe you had that one moment that you stayed up for all of about four seconds, but then you toppled over, but in that moment, you got a glimpse of balance. You got a glimpse of your relationship with that thing on the two wheels.

 

Gaining unstoppable confidence is really about constantly looking at what you did accomplish. What are you triumphs? What did you accomplish today? Look at your testimonials or kind words clients or people have said to you. It’s really about feeding yourself “praise food’.

5 C’s to start your path to Unstoppable Confidence:

  • Clarity:  Write down what it is you want to achieve.  Be clear about the outcomes you want.
  • Commitment:  Commitment means that you commit to yourself and what it is you want to achieve is greater than your commitment to something else such as staying broke, or in a bad relationship, or living an unfulfilling life. You won’t and don’t give up on yourself!
  • Consistency:  Consistency is about revisiting plans over and over. I have a concept that I call re-deciding where you don’t just decide once. You don’t just intend once. But regularly re-decide what you will achieve.
  • Celebration:  Take the time every day to review what HAS gone well, what you did good at, how many things HAVE worked out.  Don’t give time or energy to the negative.
  • Convention: How you do things like getting back up on a bike over and over again. Take action at every opportunity and be prepared to watch for the lessons.

Feel the fear and do it anyway!

Create A Simple Marketing Plan That Works

 

Do you have a simple marketing plan in place, or is this what you’re doing……

You’ve found some time to work on your business and you sit down at your computer ready to make your mark in the world.

1. First, you check your email to see who’s popped into your inbox today.
2. When you’ve checked your email, you go to Facebook.
3. When you’ve seen what everyone is talking about on Facebook you go to your second email account.
4. When you’ve checked your second email account, you go back to your first email to see if there is anything new, even though it’s only been 5 minutes since you were in there last.
5. When you’ve deleted a new junk email here, you go back to Facebook to see what everyone is talking about (again!)…..

Does this cycle sound familiar?

Why is it you do this?

Is it procrastination? Is it overwhelm?

No – it’s because you lack focus.

There is a great saying “What you focus on, expands.” To build your business to a level where it’s bringing you in the monthly income you need to meet your financial goals, you need to FOCUS!

But there’s a catch…. In order to focus, you need to know WHAT to focus on.

Regardless of what stage your business is at you must have a simple marketing plan in place so your business can gain momentum and grow.

Lots of people have long term goals, and this is a good thing. But to know what you are meant to be doing day by day means you need to break those longer goals down into bite size chunks.

I like to recommend that after setting your long term (one year) goals, you break those goals down into 60 day chunks. Then from within each sixty days, you break it down even further into weekly activities, and then further again into daily activities.

Now all you really need to do is focus completely on what you need to achieve TODAY. And when you do that over and over again, you will be charging through the weeks, and the months knowing that every single day you are taking the actions required to meet your longer term goals.

At the end of each 60 day period, imagine how great it will feel to see how many new subscribers you have added to your community, how many new clients you have signed on or how many product sales you have made….

And all because you had a strategic plan to focus on.

What smaller goals do you need to set in order to achieve your 60 day goals?

Too many people fumble through day after day expecting their results to change dramatically.
And then get frustrated, disappointed and annoyed when they still lack of results week after week, month after month.

In fact, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

If you are not satisfied with your business results right now – you need to get new results.
To get new results, you must work from a strategic plan.

Once you have your plan you must work your plan.

When you work your plan you will transform your life!

So write down for yourself what three things you can do differently in the next 60 days that will get you different results; more clients, more money, increased exposure.

Here are some ideas:

  • Attend a networking event
  • Get a speaking gig
  • Make 20 calls to ideal prospects
  • Create a Facebook advertising campaign
  • Create a joint venture relationship
  • Conduct a webinar or teleclass

When you have listed your top three, then grab out your calendar and write down what smaller goals do you need to set in order to achieve your 60 day goals?

It’s as simple as that ….

– but I’m the first to admit that it’s not always that easy!

Things get in the way. Things like your mindset, your children, you J.O.B., your relationships, and life in general.

These challenges can also be overcome. And that’s when it helps to have an accountability partner or a cheer leader. Someone who is there cheering you on from the sidelines and helping you over the obstacles so you can run the best race of your life.

Boost Productivity: Stop Busy Energy and Get Stuff Done!

 

Are you really committed to building a business that is thriving and bursting at the seams with clients?  Or do you just like the concept?  If you are truly dedicated to building a thriving business, then the first thing you’ve got to do is stop wasting your time on tasks that don’t bring in money.

I’ve been fine tuning my own skills in this area over the past few weeks and already I can see how much of a difference it is making to my income figures, as well as my energy levels.

Here’s the raw truth for most business owners.

If you were asked if you were willing to do whatever it takes to set your business up for long-term success—meaning that you and your clients are happy—would you say yes? Here’s how it works:

First, take a moment to honestly evaluate your level of commitment as far as wanting to be successful.  How bad do you want to change your financial situation or lifestyle? I want you to really take several moments before you give you response. Because what you want is definitely going to require you to do some things that will take you way out of your comfort zone.  It will involve doing things that you don’t want to do.  In fact, your biggest opportunities for financial improvement will always be found in the places that scare you most.

For instance, if you are anxious or nervous at networking events, then that’s where your money is.

The next thing you’ve got to do is stop wasting time complicating your progress.  This was a BIG lesson for me!  I have stripped away so much from my business in the last six months, and the increase in my results has been amazing.

The more you add into your business, the more overheads you incur, the more overwhelm you will suffer.

Instead, simplify everything you do.  If you’re in the place where you need to earn income NOW, then it’s time to conquer the sales conversation.  Many people who work their business ‘online’, forget all about the gold mine that can be found if you just talk to someone!  In fact, it is virtually impossible to sell to a crowd (online) if you can’t first sell to a single individual.  We have virtual VIP days where we can teach you how to get more clients fast.

If you’re schedule is already bulging with 1-1 clients, then maybe it’s time for you to discover how you can leverage your knowledge and create an online program that can serve more people all at once.  Either way, plan out your next 60 days and have a clear understanding of what you have to focus on.

This will give you a short term milestone to focus on so you can be sure you are constantly making progress in your business.
